Earnest Ballard (Ernie “Bass”) Campbell, 67, Nickelsville, VA passed away, Friday. August 21, 2020 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Ernie was born in Scott County, VA on October 10, 1952 and was the son of Lillian Virginia (Jenny) (Sluss) Campbell and the late William Charles Campbell.
He had a love of horseback riding from an early age and was an avid fan and follower of the Twin Springs Titans basketball team, rarely missing a game.
In addition to his father, his infant daughter, Santana Carol Campbell; and an infant brother preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughters, Dawn Odle, Cheyenna Campbell, and Morgan Campbell, all of Nickelsville, VA; grandchildren, Brooke Richardson and husband, Josh, Kingsport, TN and Breeze and Brayden Odle, both of Nickelsville, VA; great grandson, Nolan Warner; mother, Jenny Campbell, Nickelsville, VA; sisters, Betty Burke and husband, Chub, Nickelsville, VA, Barbara Henley, Streetman, TX, Janet Hill, Yuma, VA, Mary Austin, Nickelsville, VA, Carolyn Lane and husband, Larry, Atchison, KS, and Brenda Smith and husband, Terry “Haney Bob”, Nickelsville, VA; brothers, Doug Campbell and wife, Mary, Michael Campbell and wife, Donna, and Johnny Campbell, all of Nickelsville, VA; son -in-law, Matthew Odle, Nickelsville, VA; along with several nieces, nephews, a host of friends, and his horse, “Buddy”.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev Steve Collins officiating. David and Debbie Easterling will provide the music.
Burial will follow in the Ben Sluss Cemetery, Dungannon, VA. Matthew Odle, Daniel Smith, Josh Austin, Roger Campbell, Eddie Burke, Jamie Burke, Brayden Odle, and Timothy Hill will serve as pallbearers.
