Dana Ruth Bowen Weber City, VA ? Dana Ruth Bowen, 71, died Monday, December 15, 2008 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother and she loved to work in her flowers. She had many friends whom she loved dearly and she was "a true friend to all." She believed in dealing straight with people and she instilled this in her children.
Preceding her in death were her mother, Mae Peters; sisters, Wanda Jean Peters and Dorothy Adinolfi; and brothers, Allen Peters and Preston Peters.
Surviving are her children, Johnny Bowen and Jean, Nickelsville, VA, Melissa Baskette and her husband, Bill, Fall Branch, TN, Mike Bowen and wife, Dora, Big Stone Gap, VA, Martin Bowen and wife, Heather, Barry Bowen and wife, Mary, both of Gate City, VA, Paula Markel and husband, Trea, Tuscaloosa, AL; the father of her children, Paul Bowen, Duffield, VA; her beloved dad, Bascom Peters, Gate City, VA; sisters, Mary Jo Peters, Gate City, VA, Judy Peters, Greenback, TN; brothers, Cecil Peters and wife, Ruth, Spring Grove, PA, Harlan Peters and wife, Velma, Kingsport, TN, Gary Peters, Hiltons, VA, Claude Peters, Gate City, VA, Nelson Peters and wife, Brenda, Kingsport, TN; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friends, Barbara Cox, Jeannette and Claude Shirey and Sally Markel; special caregivers, Toni and Haley, and staff of Bristol Home Health as well as Hospice and Palliative Care of Virginia.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at Ms. Bowen's residence in Weber City, VA. Services will be at 8 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Richard Dice officiating.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, December 19, 2008 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. The family will meet at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to MEOC (Mountain Empire Older Citizens, P.O. Box 888, Big Stone Gap, VA 24219.
