Kenneth Blankenbecler – Gate City, VA
Kenneth Milo Blankenbecler, 83, Gate City, VA passed away, Monday, July 23, 2018 at his residence after a courageous battle with COPD and Lung Cancer.
Kenneth was born in Scott County, VA on January 29, 1935 to the late George Washington and Mae (Richards) Blankenbeckler.
He was a Veteran of the United States Army, a member of Manville Holiness Church, and was retired from Quebecor.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Glenna McDavid Blankenbecler (2013), sisters, Dorothy Blankenbeckler and Kate Bradshaw; and brothers, Charlie and Massie Blankenbeckler preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughters, Debra Atwell Hargis and husband, Charlie, Retha Darnell and Janet Blankenbecler, Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Nathan Godsey, Allison Godsey Hanline and husband, Michael, Matthew Henry, Adam Henry, and Jonathan Blankenbecler; great grandsons, Lucas Hanline and Christian Blankenbecler; son-in-law, Larry Darnell; sisters, Betty Easterling and C.L. and Rose Ann Carter and Perry; brother, Buford Blankenbecler; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Deon Turner and Rev. Bill Tignor officiating. The Christian Family will provide the music.
Military Graveside Services will be conducted by the American Hammond Legion Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honors Team, at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 26, 2018 at the Adams Family Cemetery, in the Manville community of Scott County, VA.
Nathan Godsey, Matthew Henry, Adam Henry, Jonathan Blankenbecler, Dwayne Peters, Grady Peters, Eric McDavid, Tim Calhoun, and Shane McDavid will serve as pallbearers. Tim Blankenbecler, Allen (Stubby) Blankenbeckler, and members of the Manville Community Center will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., Thursday to go in procession to the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Adams Family Cemetery Fund, 3706 Red Hill Road, Gate City, VA 24251.
