Roy Jack Barnett ? Gate City, VA Roy Barnett, 63, entered into eternal rest at his residence September 26, 2008 with his family by his side.

Mr. Barnett was born in Scott County, VA on December 2, 1944 to the late Gale Barnes Barnett and Hattie Mae Dorton.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by grandson, Ethan Mack Barnett, two brothers, Sammy Kay and infant brother Billy Barnett, grandfather, Rev. Billy Barnett and father and mother ? in law, Mack D. and Emma Bowen.

Roy worked most of his life as a carpenter until declining health forced him to give up the trade that he loved. He served his country during the Vietnam era as a member of the United States Marine Corps. Although it was later in life, Roy accepted Jesus as his personal savior and depended on him daily until he drew his last breath. Roy was a good father and very proud papaw and will be greatly missed by his loved ones.

Survivors are his wife, Judy Bowen Barnett, Gate City, VA. Three sons and daughters ? in ?law, Roy Michael Barnett of Gate City, VA., Kevin Mack Barnett and wife, Maria of Gate City, VA., Travis Bret Barnett and wife, Marsha also of Gate City, VA. Grandchildren, Elizabeth Emmaline Barnett, Anna Rose Barnett and Mason Bret Barnett and Layton Cole Barnett. Sisters and brothers ?in ?law, Helen Marie Goode of Weber City, VA., Beulah Faye Fansler and husband, Audley of Yuma, VA., Anna Lee Begley and husband, Steve of Ft. Blackmore, VA. also Frieda Sue Tate and husband, Donnie of Yuma, VA. One brother and sister ? in ?law, Robert Howard Barnett and wife, Betty of Church Hill, TN. Along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday, September 28, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with Rev. Wrightly Salling and Rev. Danny Keith McNew officiating. Pine Grove Harmony will provide the music.
Graveside service will be conducted Monday, September 29, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. With Military Graveside Rites conducted by American Legion Post #265 and Gate City Post # 3 along with the Virginia Army National Guard. Michael Barnett, Kevin Barnett, Travis Barnett, Phillip Mann, Larry Mann, James Mann, Robert Barnett and David Collett will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Harmie Estepp, Mack Derl Bowen, Muriel Joe Bowen, Audley Fansler, Stevie Begley, and Donnie Tate.

The family will meet at the funeral home at 12:15 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to give special thanks to a niece and personal caregiver, Tracy Collett. Also they would like to thank Independent Home Health, Wellmont Hospice, Dr. James Wolfe and his staff.
