Barbara Kaye Hillman – Dungannon, VA
Barbara Kaye Hillman, 83, Dungannon, VA passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Commonwealth Senior Living, Abingdon, VA.
Barbara was born in Dungannon, VA and was the daughter of the late Lelia Mann.
She was a well-respected educator with 43 years of helping to mold the lives of her students, as a high school teacher at Twin Springs High School.
Surviving is her daughter, Shelly Hillman, son, Mike Hillman and wife, Misty, grandchildren, Hayden and Alec Hillman, and Allison and Parker Garland. Several nieces, nephews, students, colleagues during her teaching career, making the world a better placer. Her loss will be felt by many.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 7:00p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home by Father Tim Drake.
Very special thanks goes out to the staff of Commonwealth Senior Living for their wonderful care and love for Mom during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial contributions to Cure Alzheimer's Fund, in Barbara’s honor and in hope that continued research may bring better answers, treatments, and ultimately a cure for families facing Alzheimer's disease; or to St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dungannon, Virginia the beloved church of her Appalachian home and a place that nurtured the deep faith she carried throughout her life.
