Kingsport

Elizabeth Quillen Casteel, 83, of Kingsport, TN entered into her eternal rest on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Holston Valley Medical Center.

Elizabeth was born in Scott County, VA on December 2, 1941. She is the daughter of the late Nancy Lucille Harris Quillen and Buster Brown Quillen, Sr.

She graduated from Gate City High School and scored the highest score for the civil service exam in 1960. She traveled to Washington, D.C. to work in the civil service program. She later returned to Scott County, Va where she married and raised her family of three children. She was a loving and faithful mother who often sacrificed her needs to meet the needs of her children. Her hobbies and interests included traveling with her family. The beach was her favorite destination. She participated in local and national politics through giving and letter writing. Elizabeth was a long-time member of Nottingham Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, brought her children and neighbors to church, and loved the Lord. The family is very thankful for the many neighbors and friends of the Nottingham Community for their love and care over the years. Later in life, she attended First Assembly of God, Gate City, VA. She also worked in the healthcare industry for several years as a CNA where she served the residents of our region. As a CNA, Elizabeth focused on providing high quality care to ensure that her residents were pain-free, comfortable, and well cared for.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Buster Quillen, Sr and Nancy Lucille Harris Quillen of Gate City, VA.

She is survived by her three children; Susan Greer (Kieth) of North Carolina, Teresa Miller of Kingsport, TN, and Jeff Casteel (Brigitte) of Weber City, VA; her sisters, Brenda Wallace (Jim) of Kingsport, TN, Claudine Pavlik (Bob of Richmond, VA, and Judy Henry (Charlie) of Kingsport, TN and one brother, B.B. Quillen, Jr (Joann) of Gate City, VA. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Karen Leatherwood (James), Heath Taylor, Terry Ramey (Ricky), Sarah Melton (Bridger), and Samuel Casteel. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00pm in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Bill Porter and her son, Jeff Casteel officiating. The First Assembly of God worship team will provide musical selections during the service.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:30pm, Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Jed Spicer, pastor at First Assembly of God, Gate City, VA will officiate the graveside services. Pallbearers at her memorial service will be her friends and family.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:45pm, Sunday July 13, 2025, to go in procession to the graveside service.
