Jimmy McArthur Akers, 77, Gate City, VA went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Jimmy was born in Ft. Blackmore, VA on May 5, 1944, and was the son of the late Emmitt and Nancy Ellen (Owens) Akers.
His life’s work was as a brick mason; he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, his sisters, Lucille, Georgie, Cathleen, and Helen; and brothers, Junior and Carlos preceded him in death.
Surviving is his loving wife, Reba Akers, Gate City, VA; daughter, Patricia Brown and husband, Teddy, KY; sons, Jimmy Douglas Akers, Gate City, VA, Freddy Akers, Kingsport, TN, Robert Akers and wife, Tracey, Kingsport, TN, and Michael Akers and wife, Kristy, Kingsport, TN; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, June 5, 2021, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Jimmy Combs and Evangelist Rex McMurray officiating. Chris Holder will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 6, 2021, at the France Cemetery, Gate City, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Friends are asked to meet at the France for the graveside service.
