Richard C. Adkins, 55, Duffield, VA passed away, Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at the Lonesome Pine Hospital, Big Stone Gap, VA.
Mr. Adkins was born in Maryland on August 31, 1952, a son of the late Robert Carson Adkins and Virginia Fields Adkins.
He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, James Linton Malone and his grandmother, Josephine Elam.
Surviving is his son, Robert C. Adkins and wife, Marisa Marino, Rahway, NJ, grandsons, William and Reese Adkins, along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m., Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at the Gate City Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Evangelist Kenneth Neeley officiating.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 14, 2008 at the VA Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, TN conducted by the American Legion #3 of Kingsport, TN and #265 of Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard.
