James Enoch Carter, Jr., 96, Gate City, VA passed away, Monday, June 18, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Carter was born in Dryden, VA on March 8, 1916 to James Enoch Carter and Mattie VanDeventer Carter. He was veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Carter retired from GTE Automatic Electric, Huntsville, AL in 1982. He was an avid sportsman.
In addition to his parents, his sister, Lillie Lee Carter preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Broadwater, Nickelsville, VA; step daughters, Cindy Williams and husband, John, Kingsport, TN and Carolyn Templeton, Mt. Carmel, TN; step sons, Bob Wilson and wife, Diana, Nickelsville, VA, Carson Wilson and wife, Sandra, Kingsport, TN, and Charles Wilson and wife, Sue, Kingsport, TN; sister, Rosemary Carter Miller and husband, William H., Gate City, VA; niece, Billie Shockley and husband, Jack, Gate City, VA and Roseanna Shupe and husband, Phillip, Gate City, VA; special friend, Tommy Mashburn, Huntsville, AL.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Juanita S .Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Danny Ray Dockery officiating.
A private graveside service will be conducted at a later date at the Carter Family Cemetery in Clinchport, VA.
