Lizzie Jane Bowen, 76, of Duffield, VA heard the angels sing and was carried home to be with her Lord, on Saturday February 18, 2012. She was born in Scott County on June 27, 1935 to George and Lula Stanley.
Liz was a special lady, loving and beloved wife of 57 years, mother, "Granny," friend, and neighbor. She will be dearly missed. She enjoyed working outside in her flowers and in the garden. She also loved to quilt.
She was preceded in death by her parents George "Barlow" and Lula Laney Stanley. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Edna Stanley and Nannie Austin, and her brother Johnny Stanley.
Left to cherish her memories are her loving husband of 57 years, Jarl Bowen of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Carolyn Bowen of Duffield, VA; and Jerry and Shirley Bowen of Wise, VA; grandchildren, Chuck and Ashley Bowen Young, Jared Bowen, and Jill Bowen; step grandchild, Sarah Beverly; special great grandson, Avery Young; special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Henry "Ribble" and Audrey Bowen; brothers and sister-in-law, Willie "Bill" Stanley, and Jim and Cecile Stanley; and special niece, Vickie Bowen. She is also survived by many step brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 — 7 p.m., Monday, February 20, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Reverend Terry Rhoton and Brother Gorman McMurray officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the Hall Cemetery, Stanleytown Community. Jared Bowen, Chuck Young, Scott Bowen, Ron Austin, Billy Stanley, Bill Austin will serve as pallbearers. Junior Jennings, Jackie Austin, Johnny Kerns, Bud Stanley, Farrell Stanley, Benny Stanley, Tommy Stanley, Paul Stanley, Ronnie Butler will serve as honorary pallbearers. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. to go in procession the cemetery.

I will always miss Liz. I am so sorry I didn't get to say goodbye. Liz was a good friend. I will miss her so much. My heart goes out to Jarl, Gary and Carolyn, Jerry and Shirley and all the other family members. She will be missed in the community. Sorry I can't be with you ALL in this sad, sad time.
