Eddie Lee Hammond, 60, Clinchport, VA died peacefully at his home Saturday, February 11, 2012. He is gone to forever be with his Lord.
Eddie was born in Scott County, VA on January 2, 1952 to Polly Austin Hammond and the late Lubert Hammond.
In addition to his father, Lubert Hammond, his fraternal grandparents, Issac and Florence Hammond; maternal grandparents, Elmer and Georgia Austin; his brother, Richard Lynn Hammond; and brothers-in-law, Kenneth R. Dingus and Samuel Williams preceded him in death.
Surviving is his life- long partner, Sherry Carter, Clinchport, VA; mother, Polly Hammond, Duffield, VA; sisters, Phyllis A. Payne and husband, Tommy, Blackwater, VA and Teresa K France and husband, Larry, Gate City, VA; nephews, Mark A. Dingus and wife, Brittany, Duffield, VA and Brian A. Dingus and wife, Kayla, all of Duffield, VA; niece, Kendra Faith Hammond, Gate City, VA; great niece, Sarah Renee Dingus, Duffield, VA; special friend, Cindy Dorton; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Bruce Brewer and Rev. Daryle Hurd officiating. Phyllis Payne and Nancy Rhoton will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Tommy Payne, Larry France, Mark Dingus, Brian Dingus, Bill Austin, and Jeff Lawson will serve as pallbearers. Jack Austin, Ron Austin, Jeff Austin, Gregg Austin, Jamie Austin, Vextel Austin, Gregg Herron, Freddie France, Jack France, John Ferguson, and Jason Smith will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., Wednesday to go in procession to the graveside service.
The family wished to thank Sandy, Susie, Patricia, and Freda with Bristol Wellmont Hospice; and the many that have sent cards, and prayers, made phone calls, and visited Eddie during his sickness.

I also worked with Eddie at Gate City Middle. He will be missed by all that knew him. Ed was such a kind and giving man.

Sherry, I am so sad for you today. I haven't had to come to this place yet. so there is no way I could feel your pain. I just wanted you to know that i'm thinking and praying for you . Sherry, hope you remember me. Ed ,you,Jack & I had so many good times.I am so sorry about Ed, he was a wonderfull person, just like you. Everytime I go by I look
to see if one of you are out. I always told Jack, tell them

Polly and family, we are sad to hear about Eddie's passing. We've been praying for all of you and for Ed. Ed is gone home where we all desire to go and I know without a doubt he is having the time of his life.

I worked with Eddie at Gate City Middle School for several years. He was a good friend to me. I loved him and will miss him very much. My thoughts and prayers are with Eddie's family.

To Eddie's family,I'm so very sorry and extremely sad to hear of Eddie's passing. Eddie lived life to it's fullest and that is the best gift to pass along to everyone. I will miss his humor and the unique way he saw life! He could make me laugh at times I didn't feel like it.I feel like I have known Ed and Sherry all my life.I can't imagine Clinchport without Eddie.Sherry,if you need someone to talk to let me know...I can actually be quite and listen when I need to! I am so very sorry to hear of Ed's passing. He and my father, Jack Raby, were really good friends "in the old days," as well as when I was a little girl. I remember him fondly and offer only my most sincere of condolences. I am confident that my dad was there to welcome him with open arms.

I will keep all of you in my prayers. Eddie was a good man and friend to all who knew him. I will remember the times we went camping and fishing, Eddie was fun to be around.
I know that Eddie is having a family reunion with Lubert and Richard and Mamaw and Pa Paw.I will miss Eddie, But I know he will be waiting on me. LOVE all of you.
