Mr. Arnold Lee Begley, 81, Kingsport, TN was welcomed into the arms of our Father in heaven, Wednesday, December 21, 2011.
Arnold Begley was born in Scott County, VA on August 18, 1930, the son of the late Roy Maxwell Begley and Lina Owens Begley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother James Roy Begley.
Surviving is his wife, Dorothy Brickey Begley, Kingsport, TN; daughters, Pamela R. Jones and husband Jeff, Lexington, SC, Helen Susie Mays, Kingsport, TN; sons Bobby L. Begley and wife Diane, Wise, VA, Donald E. Begley and wife Robin, Knoxville, TN, Terry A. Begley and wife Billie Joe , Ft. Blackmore, VA ; brothers, Ralph E. Begley and wife Lona, Whitesburg, KY, James Begley and wife Diane, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Jackie Begley and wife Shirley Jean, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Jimmy Baker and wife Wilma, Ft. Blackmore, VA; sister Mattie Horton and husband Larry, Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Cristy McNutt and husband Rowdy, Matt Laney and wife Beth, Kevin Begley, Jason Begley, Brandy McCullough and husband Donnie, Autumn Mays, Isaiah Mays, Wendy Addington, Carri Addington, Brooklyn Miller, Garrett Begley, Jacob Boyd and Annie Marie Epps, Six great grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
Arnold Begley (Papaw) was a loving husband, father and friend. He was a warm generous, giving man who loved his family, loved his dog, baby and loved all living things. He served in the United States Army as Sgt. First Class 1951-1957 in the United States, Japan and Korea. Mr. Begley was a police officer in Chicago, IL in the 1960s and worked for Thomas Construction until he retired.
The family will receive friends from 5 — 7 p.m., Monday, December 26, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. L.W. "Red" Salling and Rev. Wrightly Salling officiating
Military graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3 of Kingsport, TN and Post #265 of Gate City, VA, assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at the Brickey Cemetery in the Wood community of Scott County, VA. Rowdy McNutt, Greg Parker, Tommy Sawyer Jr., Mark Summey, Teddy Parker, Blake Parker and Josh Parker will serve as pallbearers; Claude Summey, Angelo Strazzante and Kyle Horne will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m., to go in procession to the graveside service.
