Mr. Elmer Walter Mann, 91, Ft. Blackmore, VA entered into rest, Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Mann was born in Scott County, VA on February 7, 1919, son of the late James Walter and Sarah Jane Lane Mann.
He was of the Baptist faith and was a veteran of World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Nannie Dorton Mann, Ft. Blackmore, VA and six children, Peggy and Charlie Osborne, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Phillip Mann and very special friend, Mary Jessee Ft. Blackmore, VA, James and Alice Mann, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Larry and Betty Jo Mann, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Jane and Lee Vanzant, Jonesville, VA, and David Mann and fiancé, Patty Smith, Ft Blackmore, VA; former daughter-in-law, Brenda Mann; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Cowden, Kingsport, TN and Nancy Janie Stewart, Kingsport, TN; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Monday, July 5, 2010 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Carl Dorton and the Rev. Walker Darnell officiating. P.R. Davidson will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the Beard-Mann Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA with a flag presentation conducted by members of the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and #265, Gate City, VA and members of the Virginia Army National Guard. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family of Mr. Mann wishes to convey their thanks to Ashley and the staff of Wellmont Hospice.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.

We learned Tuesday morning of the passing of Elmer Mann. Mr. Mann was always so kind to us, inviting us in to visit and get a bite to eat. He went to school with Dad, William E. to the family of elmer walter mann sorry to hear about elmer i didn't know him but i know some of his family he is where the flowers will bloom forever and will be missed very much.if there is anything i can do for you all please let me know i will pray that the lord will comfort you all through this.you will see him again where he wont have anymore cancer
