Eddie Starnes
Gate City, VA | March 08, 2010Eddie Carroll "Sonny" Starnes, 61, entered into rest Monday, March 8, 2010 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was born in Sullivan County, TN October 12, 1948. He was preceded in death by his father, Eddie Howard Starnes; maternal grandparents, Everett and Lydia Williams; paternal grandparents, Bart and Emma Starnes; father-in-law, Burin Lane.
He was the pastor of Peters Chapel Church for several years.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Linda Starnes, Gate City, VA; mother, Francis Starnes, Gate City, VA; sons and daughter-in-law, Stephen Starnes, Fall Branch, TN, Brandon and Jennifer McConnell, Ft. Blackmore, VA; grandchildren, Luke McConnell and Brand Starnes; mother-in-law, Reba Lane; sister and brother-in-law, Dianne McDavid White and Eugene, Rogersville, TN; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Karen and Jeff Parsons, Charlie and Jenny Stone, Frank and Deb Duncan, Dana McConnell, Burin Lane, Jr., and Rhonda Bright; several nieces and nephews; special pet, Boogie.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2010 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Bro. Mike Gilliam officiating. Eulogy will be given by Michael Darnell. Music will be provided by Tim Baldwin, April McNew and The James McConnell Singers.
Burial will follow the service at Lane Family Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Special thanks to Wellmont Hospice, the members of Peters Chapel Church and his caregiver, Debbie Duncan.
Gate City Funeral Home is serving the Starnes family.

I have known Eddie since the first grade in Gate City and considered him a friend. We played together as kids and I will always remember his optimistic view of everything and the way he made his friends feel they should not take themselves too seriously. Eddie and I were friends since the first grade.I'm so sorry that you guys have lost him...but it's only temporary...you'll all be together again someday.Eddie's O.K. now...he's young again,healthy again...when I close my eyes,I can see him smilin'!Rock on,Eddie!!!

I am so sorry to hear of Brother Sonny's passing, We know that he is with the God he preached about so many years at rest waiting the Appearence of all of us left behind at the rapture soon to come!!
