Ron Elliott
Gate City, VA | April 23, 2009I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. II Timothy 4: 7-8
Rev. Ronald Wayne Elliott, age 61, departed this earthly life to enter into eternal life with his Lord and his Savior Jesus Christ on April 23, 2009.
Ron retired from the Eastman Chemical Company and had owned a gunsmith business. Ron had many hobbies and past times and took pride in all he did. However, he felt his greatest achievement was in accepting Christ as his Savior and answering God's call to the ministry. He served several years as pulpit supply for Clinch Valley Baptist Association; pastor of Dungannon First Baptist Church and co-teacher with the English as a Second Language class for Hispanics at Nickelsville First Baptist Church. Ron loved to share God's word and witness to everyone with whom he came in contact. He had a great love for God's children.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Denver and Ina Elliott, father-in-law, Carroll McCoy, sister-in-law, Mary Elliott and brother-in-law, Allen Spivey.
Ron leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Carolyn McCoy Elliott, and a brother, Dan Elliott, both of Gate City, VA; mother-in-law, June McCoy, sisters-in-law, Susan Kilgore and spouse, Dan, Gate City, VA, and Debra Spivey, Elon, NC, brothers-in-law, Dan McCoy and spouse, Cindy, Roanoke, VA, and Jim McCoy and spouse, Shannon, Kingsport, TN along with several nieces and nephews.
It was Ron's express desire there be no public visitation or funeral service. Anyone wishing to extend their respects to the family may go by Gate City Funeral Home during their business hours and sign the registry.
Graveside services will be conducted at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 27, 2009 conducted by the Rev. Richie Neese and the Rev. Jeff Henderson.
Dan Kilgore, Dan McCoy, Jim McCoy, Shannon Elliott, Christopher Kilgore, Mickey Willis, Tim Casey, Ralph Musick and Jeff Jones will serve as pallbearers.
Rob Gardner, Fernando Moraflores, Scott Short, Conley Doran, Brian Doran, Charles Osborne, Otis Gillenwater, Jr., E.L. Gillenwater, Jr., Clyde Gillenwater, Bobbie Elliott and James Stallard will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the youth program of the church of your choice or to the Memorial Bible Chairman, Gideons International, Scott County Camp, P.O. Box 845, Gate City, VA 24251 so others may come to know Ron's Savior by reading of God's love and saving grace. The family would like to thank Dr. Frederick Mishkin for his care and concern during Ron's recent illness along with Dr. Lucinda Miller, the doctors of Holston Medical Group, Dr. Asheesh Shipstone and Wellmont Hospice, especially Becky Sutherland, Misty Venett, Angela Browning, and Rich Slaght, and to Drs. David Lane, Lawrence Morris, Clair Hixson, Arthur Wyaker and Michael Smith for their many years of caring for Ron's long term illnesses.

Carolyn and family,
We know your heart is heavy, but there is no doubt that Ron is rejoicing with his Heavenly Father. His Christian walk in these past years has been influential to many and his enthusiasm for God's work will be a memory for some and the the remembrance of the one who introduced them to the savior for others.
God Bless You!
